SENIOR Pastor REV. Jim Jones
Pastor Jones grew up with a loving mother and stepfather in the Bennett's Creek area of Suffolk, VA. He attended John Yeates High School and was a member of the youth group at Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake. After graduation from high school, he attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN. At the age of 19, during the summer after his first year in college, he was called to preach under the evangelism of Ron Comfort. During his second year at TTU, Pastor Jones began preaching in the chapel ministry at a small church in Fort Payne, AL. He was also involved in the local jail ministry and street preaching in downtown Chattanooga, TN. Jim Jones graduated in 1982 with a BA in Biblical Studies and double minor in Psychology and Business. In 1979, Jim Jones married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Jackson. Their family has been blessed with three sons, Jordan, Jared and Jamison, and one daughter, Janssen. The Jones family moved back to Virginia following the passing of Jim's stepfather. In March of 1998, Jim Jones became the pastor of Mill Swamp Baptist Church. Since that time the church more than doubled its membership and embarked on many exciting avenues, including the building of the Family Life Center. Pastor Jones retired his ministry with Mill Swamp Baptist Church in May of 2018, after 20 years and 3 months of service.
